New community funding announced for Wales

Posted in News on the June 19th, 2008

A multimillion pound fund has been unveiled for those working for community and voluntary projects within Wales, it has emerged.

The Welsh Assembly government’s Communities First initiative will allow community groups to apply for money to help improve their local area.

In addition, applicants will be required to point out how their request for funding will help them to manage priorities such as reducing poverty or improving employability levels.

This is the second wave of funding, following the inaugural Communities First programme, which was established in 2002.

Overall, community groups will receive £25 million over the next three years.

Following on from such funding it may be possible that community organisations are able to maintain sustainable efficiencies.

Leighton Andrews, deputy minister for regeneration, said: "I want to make sure that Communities First makes a significant difference to local communities and really adds value."

Last month, London Councils invited voluntary organisations throughout the capital to apply for funding to assist them in supporting poverty-stricken families.

More about sustainable efficiencies.
