Hope announces support for social enterprises

Posted in News on the June 27th, 2008

Phil Hope has declared his support for those working for social enterprises, it has been revealed.

Speaking at the LA Connecting London 2008 conference last week, the minister for the third sector claimed that such organisations play an important role in delivering public service contracts which are cost-effective and innovative.

He went on to report that he has a "developed range of policies designed to boost their access to finance, including a £10million risk capital fund and, if resources permit, using a portion of the money in dormant bank accounts for social investment."

Such news could be of interest to third sector bodies looking to improve sustainable efficiencies.

Meanwhile, John O’Brien, chief executive at London Councils, stated that social enterprises have a vital role in "the community empowerment agenda".

The event, which was set up by Social Enterprise London and involved representatives from all 33 boroughs across the capital, discusses the ways in which social enterprises can bid for services.

Speaking at a CapacityBuilders conference earlier this month Mr Hope, unveiled a £6 million support fund for social enterprises.

More about sustainable efficiencies.
