Recommendations for healthcare social enterprise workers revealed

Those operating in the public sector who wish to work for health-related social enterprises will be able to keep on to their pension, it has been revealed.

A report by Lord Darzi recommended that those wishing to create independent healthcare social enterprise organisations will be allowed to retain their public sector pension rights.

In the report it was claimed that healthcare-related social enterprises will help to provide a service which responds to the needs of the individuals and communities which they serve, ThirdSector.co.uk reports.

Jonathan Bland, chief executive of the Social Enterprise Coalition, said: "It is truly momentous that NHS healthcare professionals who want to establish social enterprises will now be able to do so without the threat of losing their pensions."

It was claimed that at present health enterprises struggle to offer consistent employee rights for workers transferring from the NHS.

Such news might interest those looking for work with a social enterprise via a regional recruitment portal.

Meanwhile, Gordon Brown claimed that the next ten years will see more services supplied by social enterprises and independent public service providers.

Earlier this year, care services minister Ivan Lewis unveiled a multimillion pound grant for local community projects aimed at helping to boost levels of voluntary workers within the health and social care sector.
