Navca welcomes sport funding consultation

Those operating for sport-related community organisations could be set to receive more effective financial support, it has been revealed.

In an announcement by Sport England, it was indicated that the organisation is to consult with community groups, sport institutions and members of the public on ways in which the £45 million handed out in National Lottery funding each year is allocated.

Such a move was welcomed by the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (Navca).

Carrie McKenzie, strategic sports partnership advisor at Navca, said: "This presents a real opportunity for the local third sector to ensure that the system for distributing lottery funding for community sport is as appropriate and accessible as possible."

She added that local third sector groups can use sport to "make a real difference" to communities.

Following on from receiving appropriate financial assistance it may be possible that community and voluntary groups are able to manage sustainable efficiencies more effectively.

In related news, the government recently unveiled plans to make payroll giving, donor legislation and Gift Aid more effective for charities.

More about sustainable efficiencies.
