Legal Review committee ‘will ensure best practice’
The Institute of Fundraising is urging individuals to join its new Legal Review Committee, which is planning to meet regularly to review the 26 Codes of Fundraising Practice.
Committee members operate on a voluntary basis and ensure that legal requirements outlined in the Codes of Fundraising Practice "remain well interpreted and up-to-date", set out obligations for members of the institute and provide a skills framework to promote best practice. (more…)
CSR ‘vital to employee attraction’
Corporate and social responsibility (CSR) is considered to be of high importance for prospective employees, a survey has found.
According to research by forum3, a recruitment event for people working in the not-for-profit sector, some 95 per cent of respondents view sustainable efficiencies in CSR as important when considering whether to work for an employer. (more…)
Nine unitary proposals accepted
A total of nine proposals for unitary status from local authorities have been approved by ministers, according to the Communities and Local Government department.
The local government re-structuring proposals will all now move towards implementation and the government wants to see all the new public sector unitary authorities up and running by 2009, potentially saving the nine authorities more than £150 million per year.
By replacing two-tier county and city, borough or district authorities with a single body, savings made by the authorities could be used to improve front line public services, reduce council tax bills or create new public sector jobs, developing flagship councils that will empower communities and their citizens. Developers ‘must progress land more swiftly’
Developers in Britain are being urged to bring land forward more quickly in order to help address housing shortages and increase the nation’s housing stock.
Ministers have stressed the importance of bringing land forward for housing, earmarking more brownfield land for development and preventing developers from ‘land banking’ suitable sites with planning permission.
A raft of new measures to boost provision of new housing in the UK have been outlined in the government’s housing green paper, including plans to build millions of new homes across the country, potentially increasing the number of planning jobs in Britain. (more…)
Acevo consortium wins third sector innovation contract
A new pilot designed to bolster third sector involvement in public services has seen a consortium including The Innovation Unit, Acevo and Headshift awarded a £1.2 million contract.
The decision was unveiled by Phil Hope, third sector minister, who is involved with overseeing charities, the voluntary sector, not-for-profit organisations and non-governmental organisations.
Mr Hope said that the new Innovation Exchange - which is designed to improve innovation in the sector - was an ambitious programme which would aim to bring network partners together. (more…)
