Benefit claims get free 0800 number

Benefit claimants are to get a new 0800 number as away of speeding up the benefit claims and return to work advice process.

The number, which is being introduced following feedback from the public, will be free to call from landlines. (more…)

Newcastle improves on tax collection

Newcastle city council has succeeded in improving its council tax collection rates.

The council beat its performance target by collecting over 95 per cent of council tax (95.4 per cent) for 2006-07. (more…)

Scottish voluntary sector gives views on welfare reform

The Scottish voluntary sector aired its views on Scottish welfare reform on Friday during a meeting with employment and welfare reform minister Jim Murphy.

Organised by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO), the event saw organisations meet who share an interest in helping the most disadvantaged people enter the labour market. (more…)

Councils to get new ‘devolutionary’ powers

New devolutionary powers are to be handed out to councils in a bid to improve local government’s public satisfaction ratings.

Measures contained in the ‘local government and public involvement in health’ bill, which is currently passing through parliament, will give councils new means of engaging communities and tackling local issues. (more…)

Cornwall council seeks views over unitary proposal

Cornwall county council is seeking the views of the public over a proposal to create one unified council for Cornwall.
