Government approach to third sector ’shifting’

A new report from the Third Sector Review indicates a sea change in the government’s assessment of the voluntary and community sector, according to one representative body.

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) comments that the report demonstrates an increasingly clear comprehension of the sector, which accommodates not only its role as a network partner for service delivery but also the wider operations of the not-for-profit sector. (more…)

Policymakers ’should hear the voice of CEN network’

Future policymaking would benefit if it was to be informed by the knowledge of Community Empowerment Networks (CENs), it has been claimed.

A new national network instituted to represent the interests of CENs is calling on central government to give it a clearly defined role in advising on policy, eGov Monitor reports. (more…)

Third sector ’should advise highest echelons of government’

The head of the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (acevo) has penned an open letter to the government calling for the establishment of a council of third sector leaders.

Stephen Bubb, chief executive officer of acevo, has called on the minister for the office of the third sector Phil Hope MP to create the council which could advise on sector issues. (more…)

CIH investigating disabled candidate attraction and support

New research investigating ways that housing organisations can help disabled people looking to pursue a career in the sector is being undertaken by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH).

It is the second phase of research into the subject carried out by the institute and follows data suggesting that significant interest has been expressed in an initiative by both education centres and employers. (more…)

Calls made for increased investment in campaigning

Charities must increase their focus on the recruitment and training of campaigners in order to effect change under prime minister Gordon Brown’s premiership, it has been suggested.

Chris Stalker, head of campaigning effectiveness at the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) has called on such not-for-profit bodies to increase their investment in both time and resources for this aspect of their activities. (more…)
