Older workforce offer ‘wider pool of skills’
Employees may not be able to make the best use of talent pools by continuing to wait for the European Court of Justice to put an end to the mandatory age of retirement, it has been suggested.
According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the legislation has stopped a fifth of employers from offering jobs to those workers aged 65 or above, which in turn could have an impact on organisations looking for talent on demand. (more…)
Talent pools covering a wide range of ages can “increase productivity”
A mixture of young and older staff could prove to be highly-effective for employees, new figures show.
In research commissioned by Jobcentre Plus, 66 and 65 per cent of older and younger British personnel respectively were appreciative of the benefits of a workface made up of people at varying ages. (more…)
Public sector proposals made in Scotland
A single body could be responsible for the inspection, audit and regulation of all public services in Scotland, it has been suggested.
In a report published by the Independent Review of Regulation, Audit, Inspection and Complaints Handling of Public Services in Scotland, a number of recommendations were made to improve the role of scrutiny within the public sector. (more…)
‘Cascades’ can boost provision of affordable housing
More affordable homes could be provided under flexible mechanisms or ‘cascades’ within S.106 agreements, it has been suggested.
In new research published by English Partnerships, the Housing Corporation and the Advisory Team for Large Applications, it was suggested that cascades can be helpful in ensuring delivery of property for large social housing projects quickly. (more…)
Public sector HR staff defend profession
Changes need to be made regarding laws surrounding dismissal procedures, human resources (HR) chiefs working in the public sector have stated as they defend their profession.
Angela O’Connor, chief people officer at the National Policing Improvement Agency, told Personnel Today that a greater drive is needed by the HR profession and their network partners across all departments to ensure that staff, including those working in regional recruitment portals, are able to deal with dismissal cases sufficiently.
