Acevo consortium wins third sector innovation contract
A new pilot designed to bolster third sector involvement in public services has seen a consortium including The Innovation Unit, Acevo and Headshift awarded a £1.2 million contract.
The decision was unveiled by Phil Hope, third sector minister, who is involved with overseeing charities, the voluntary sector, not-for-profit organisations and non-governmental organisations.
Mr Hope said that the new Innovation Exchange - which is designed to improve innovation in the sector - was an ambitious programme which would aim to bring network partners together. (more…)
NGLN: Galvanise decision-making in the public sector
Public sector decision-making is the subject of a new publication from the New Local Government Network (NLGN), which says leaders need to be "galvanised" to improve their skills.
In an essay published by the NLGN, which includes contributors such as MP Nick Raynsford and the mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, discussion of how to improve the talent pools at local level is outlined. (more…)
Government approach to third sector ’shifting’
A new report from the Third Sector Review indicates a sea change in the government’s assessment of the voluntary and community sector, according to one representative body.
The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) comments that the report demonstrates an increasingly clear comprehension of the sector, which accommodates not only its role as a network partner for service delivery but also the wider operations of the not-for-profit sector. (more…)
Policymakers ’should hear the voice of CEN network’
Future policymaking would benefit if it was to be informed by the knowledge of Community Empowerment Networks (CENs), it has been claimed.
A new national network instituted to represent the interests of CENs is calling on central government to give it a clearly defined role in advising on policy, eGov Monitor reports. (more…)
Third sector ’should advise highest echelons of government’
The head of the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (acevo) has penned an open letter to the government calling for the establishment of a council of third sector leaders.
Stephen Bubb, chief executive officer of acevo, has called on the minister for the office of the third sector Phil Hope MP to create the council which could advise on sector issues. (more…)
