Alternative solution to unitary Somerset authority

An alternative solution has been published to the proposals put forward by the County Council for a unitary Somerset Authority.

The Team Somerset Outline Business Case has set out plans for a scheme that would see all local authorities in Somerset work together to offer enhanced services and value for money to residents without forming in to a single entity. (more…)

Rural councillors’ consultation extended

The Commission for Rural Councillors has announced the extension of a consultation in to the strengthening of the role of rural councillors.

The date for submissions has now been expanded to June 8th, allowing more evidence to be gathered to support calls for rural councillors and governments to have more influence on decisions taken in their region. (more…)

Council cleans up it’s recruitment

The District Council has launched a ‘Talent Pool’ to assist with its recruitment needs for CLEANERS. This newly launched online portal will enable applicants who apply for cleaning jobs with the District Council but to be added to an accessible ‘Pool of Talent’ ‘.

This new pilot initiative holds easily accessible information about individuals who have previously applied for positions. This in turn saves the applicant having to fill in duplicate lengthy application forms for future positions.

A quarter of fire and rescue authorities score top marks

A quarter of fire and rescue authorities (FRAs) have been rated ‘excellent’ for the way they respond to emergencies and prevent fires, deaths and injuries.

The Audit Commission’s Fire and Rescue Performance Assessments placed just under half of FRAs in the top two categories of good or excellent overall. (more…)
